The D-2 and D-500 capacitor-type detectors are designed to measure the exposure dose of gamma radiation in the energy range from 300 Kev to 1.25 MeV with a direct reading on the scale of the measuring panel.
The length and capacity of a single capacitor differ. The d-2 detector makes measurements in the range of 0.005-2P, the d-500 detector-in the range of 2-500 p. The range of each type of dosimeter is divided into three sub-bands. Dosimeters D-500 are intended as emergency dosimeters.
When exposed to gamma radiation, the capacitor is charged with the current of the ionization chamber, which is a radiation detector.
The d-2 and D-500 detectors have a cylindrical body, inside of which there is an ionization chamber and two capacitors: a charging and measuring one, located at the ends of the detector. The charging capacitor is used to supply voltage to the ionization chamber and maintain the saturation mode of the chamber. When the detector is irradiated, an ionization current is generated in the chamber, and the measuring capacitor is charged.
The d-2 detector differs from the d-500 detector by the capacity of the measuring capacitor and the volume of the ionization chamber.
In the saturation mode of the ionization chamber, the charge value on the measuring capacitor is directly proportional to the gamma radiation dose and does not depend on the charging voltage.
The capacities of the charging and measuring capacitors are selected so that at radiation doses up to 4P for the d-2 detector and up to 800P for the d-500 detector, the ionization chambers are in saturation mode. If the values of the specified radiation doses are exceeded, the proportionality between the charge on the measuring capacitor and the gamma radiation dose is violated.
The basic measurement error is ± 10 % for the first third and ± 20% for the rest of the scale from the maximum scale value of each sub-band. Additional error due to the "stroke with stiffness" in the range of 0.3-1.25 MeV - no more than ± 20 %.
The d-2 and D-500 detectors are measured using the kid-6 dosimeter, which also determines the charge of the detectors.
